The historic Iolani Palace suffered some damage from Sunday's earthquake.

Staff at the palace discovered cracks around the skylights in both the administrative offices and the actual palace. Officials don't know just how extensive the repairs may be, but the largest visible crack is about a foot long.

The danger is that the damage is more structural than cosmetic.

An architect was hired by the state to determine just how extensive the damage was.

"Once we do have a damage assessment, we will inform the state parks department and they will package that with other requests for consideration by FEMA," said Kippen de Alba Chu, executive director at the palace.

Besides the cracks and some falling plaster the staff said there was no other damage to the palace furnishings.

The biggest concern was possible leaks due to the cracks.
