A 79-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a vehicle in an Aiea driveway on Thursday, according to police.
It happened at around 12:15 p.m. on Kahapili Street.
Police say two women in their 70s were in a car and head to a home on Kahapili Street to pick up their friend.
"As she drove up into the driveway, the gate to the driveway was closed. Her friend came out of the house and was opening the gate to the driveway when her friend thought she was pressing the brake. She pressed the gas and accelerated forward. The gate knocked her friend to the ground," said Lt. Carlene Lau.
The woman was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition where she later died.
The driver of the car turned right and the car went down the embankment and partially went into the neighboring home.
Police called the damage to the home moderate. The driver was not injured. The passenger complained of pain, but refused treatment at the scene.
