Honolulu police say Dillingham Boulveard in Kalihi is closed between Kalihi Street and Mokauea Street due to a water main break Thursday morning.
The initial announcement was made just before 7:45 a.m.
The road was closed in both directions until around 1:15 p.m., when a contraflow was set up allowing one lane in each direction.
Just after 5 p.m., the road was closed again in both directions. Motorists should avoid the area, if possible.
Special duty officers are at the scene to help direct traffic flow.
The 8-inch water main break is at 1824 Dillingham Blvd., according to the Board of Water Supply. The break was reported at around 7:30 a.m.
Twelve customers are without water. A water wagon is set up for the affected customers.
The 8-inch cast iron water main was originally installed in 1938.
The city's Traffic Management Center says it has adjusted traffic lights on Dillingham Blvd. to improve the flow of traffic.
