Case load continues to grow for Honolulu's police with another armed robbery in Waipahu. This time, it's a fast food stick up that left employees and their neighbors deeply afraid.
Officers spent Wednesday morning interviewing the employees at the Wendy's in Kunia.
It was about 7:40 when Wendy's employees came running into the flagship Fastlube next door asking to call 911.
"They said their manager was being held at gun point and they were getting robbed," said Tez Sotelo of Flagship Fastlube.
The frightened employees told Sotelo the masked man, armed with a long gun, entered the back door and demanded money.
"While I was trying to get information from them I saw him running out through the back door into the parking lot with his gun. Then my manager proceeded to chase him through the parking lot," said Sotelo.
[I] kept my distance because I saw the weapon," said Harley Castillo, manager of Flagship Fastlube.
So what made him run after the suspect with a gun?
"Well just a good person trying to help out that's what I believe in, help out each other," said Castillo.
Castillo says he saw the man carrying a purse and some bags during the chase that led them across the street to the Bank of Hawaii and into the Village Park residential area. That's where the Castillo lost the suspect.
This is the latest in a string of armed robberies in the area.
Around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday the Waipahu Times Supermarket was robbed. Employees say the masked man brandished a firearm.
Early Monday morning a McDonald's near the Pearl Kai Shopping Center was robbed by a masked man carrying a long gun.
On July 14, the Waipahu Jack in the Box was robbed just before 5 a.m. by a masked man also carrying a long gun.
On July 10, around 4 a.m., the Waipahu Longs Drugs was robbed by two masked men armed with knives.
Police will not say if they believe any of these incidents are related. They are still seeking the armed masked men who robbed the Salt Lake American Savings Bank on May 13 and the Pearl Ridge American Savings Bank on May 30.
Detectives tell KITV4 there's not much of a description to go on in Wednesday's holdup. The robber had a mask, sunglasses, long sleeves and pants.
