A military commander has upheld a recommendation to sentence former Master Sergeant Nathaniel Cosby to life in prison.
Earlier this year Cosby was found guilty of murder while engaging in a dangerous act as well as obstruction of justice.
Cosby admitted to killing Ivanice Harris in May of last year, claiming it was in self-defense after he discovered she was a prostitute and saying she cut him with a lipstick knife.
He dumped her body out near Yokohama Bay and hid out while police searched for her murderer.
Cosby was also dishonorably discharged from the military. He is eligible for parole.
