Maui County fire officials say the pilot and a family of six from Illinois were not injured after a tour helicopter made a hard landing north of Waihee Stream Tuesday morning.
Fire crews were called just before 10 a.m. to the Kapuna area.
The chopper is from Sunshine Helicopters. The helicopter landed in a pasture.
Fire officials say the helicopter experienced some type of mechanical problem.
Ross Scott, the president and owner of Sunshine Helicopters, says the pilot did a good job performing an autorotation, which makes the rotors turn without help from the engine.
The family of six -- a father, mother and four teenage daughters -- are from Bellevue, Ill.
Scott said the family has rescheduled another flight with the company.
