Multiple sources have confirmed with KITV4 that University of Hawaii Manoa’s Chancellor Tom Apple is being ousted.
Apple has held the position since 2012 with an initially rocky experience.
That included the so called Stevie Wonder Blunder where UH was scammed out of a $200,000 deposit for a fake concert. He also entered during the ouster of then athletic director Jim Donovan.
“I think it’s playing out a decision that was made probably last Winter or Spring and I think what it took was the appointment of Lassner as President,” said J.N. Musto of UHPA. “Before he felt he was in place where decisions could be made.”
Since the start of his tenure, Apple has had a tumultuous relationship with some department deans.
Efforts to get comments from Apple and the Board of Regents were unsuccessful.
The University would not confirm his firing, but released a statement in part saying:
"Tom Apple is the Chancellor of UH Manoa and President Lassner continues to work with him to address the challenges facing UH Manoa."
