Jay is back to work... A week after getting hurt while trying to break up a fight at a basketball game. KITV4's Brenton Awa is live at the Stan Sheriff Center with more. Brenton? Lara -- Ben Jay returned to work yesterday morning... His FIRST day on-job since suffering back and kidney injuries, after getting in the middle of that crowd fight following a Rainbow Wahine basketball game against West Virginia. Ben Jay spoke with the media yesterday for the FIRST time since being released from the hospital. ONE of the things he talked about was learning the identity of THIS man, the alleged "Hawaii Heckler", who by MOST accounts, STARTED the "squirmish" with a West Virginia assistant coach. Jay intervened, and wound up breaking three-vertebrae, and suffered bruising around his kidneys. :20 "I CERTAINLY WANT TO SIT DOWN AND GET HIS SIDE OF THE STORY AS TO WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS MORE WORRIED AT THE TIME ABOUT GETTING HIM OUT OF THERE SAFELY BECAUSE THERE WERE QUITE A FEW PEOPLE THAT WANTED TO GET AT HIM." Jay says NO charges will be filed, and added U-H will beef-up security at the Stan Sheriff Center. :05 The A.D. says the incident's "Over and Done With", after the Big-12 reprimanded an assistant coach. Jay did NOT accompany the U-H football team, to Wyoming.
