Constitutional means. Today marks the 50th anniversary of University of Hawaii Community Colleges. There are now seven community colleges across the state. KITV4's Nana Ohkawa joins us from Honolulu Community College with the latest. Nana? It was in 1964 when colleges like HCC went from being run by the state dept of education to the university of Hawaii. --Changing from technical schools to community colleges. When the community colleges were created there was a clear mission in mind. Prepare students for transfer, for a career and community service. The system is the largest sector of the UH System. --More than half of all undergraduate students attend its community colleges. And soon HCC will get to expand its Science technology and engineering fields with a new 30 million dollar training center. with the 2013 funding-- The students will be able to look forward to the new three story building with new classrooms labs and a green house- Reporting live from H-C-C, Nana Ohkawa KITV4 News.
