The teen accused in a deadly Kahaluu shooting appeared before a judge for the first time today. 18 year old- Samuela Mataele is charged with second degree murder, terroristic threatening and a firearms charge for allegedly shooting and killing 65 year old Josh Liavaa. Liavaa was a former New Zealand police officer and was married to a Tongan princess at one point. Liavaa is related to Mataele and was living with the family at their Kahaluu home when the shooting occurred last weekend. Mataele's older brother says his his younger sibling has been struggling with schizophrenia since he was sixteen.
