It is all about the pride of Tahiti in Waikiki this weekend.
Hundreds of dancers competed in the 14th annual Heiva I Honolulu at the Waikiki Shell Friday.
The Tahitian dance festival brought together dance troupes from across Hawai'i, the mainland, Tahiti, Mexico and Japan.
Members of the local Tahitian community are praising the festival.
“95 percent of these dancers are not Tahitian…and we the Tahitian people are so proud of them because they’re here promoting our culture. They don’t know the language, but it’s the love for Tahitian dance,” said Jeanne Larsen, a judge at Heiva I Honolulu.
The two-day competition continues Saturday at 10 a.m. with both the solo and group divisions.
