rescued. It happened a week ago in waters of Po'ipu Kauai and comes as we're learning snorkeling can be far more dangeorus than it looks.. Daren Jenner was bodysurfing at Po'ipu Reef last week friday morning when he heard a call for help and saw a snorkler struggling. In waters pretty far off shore ....He took off to help. Jenner has a go pro on his handboard... That captured the rescue. :06-:09 relax. Your gonna be fine. Jenner says the snorkler was exhausted. Jenner continues to calm him down as they begin to swim to shore. :28-41 get your breath. Just take you there. We're alright here. Alright. you're fine here. But at this moment that snorkeler clearly doesn't FEEl fine. And he almost added to a staggering statistic. Between 2009 and 2013 79 people died while snorkeling in Hawaii Male victims outnumbered females by 3-1 And 2/3 of the victims were 55 or older. Age isn't always a factor... As the surf condition play a big role. Just last Saturday two California men drowned while snorkeling off Hunakai street in Kahala . The victims were 31 and 32 years old. The poipu rescue would soon become a team effort. Jenner flags down a surfer to assist. 3:33- we got a problem. Can you board him on your board? The snorkler on Kaua'i was lucky Jenner heard his calls for help. Six minutes later, he was on shore and getting help from paramedics. Again, that snorkeler recovered from the experience. Lucky guy.
