It could be standing room only at Wednesday's public meeting regarding a proposal to ban standup surfers from Ala Moana Beach.
The surf club Hui O He'e Nalu has gathered more than 650 signatures against the plan to bar standup surfers from Magic Island to Kewalo Basin 18 hours per week.
The proposal was brought forward by local attorney Timothy Mac Master, who claims standup surfers have an unfair wave-catching advantage and pose a hazard in the lineup.
Wednesday's meeting by the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural resources is meant to further discussion to see if the plan should move forward.
The forum will be held at the Jefferson Elementary School cafeteria starting at 5:30 p.m.
