Hirono presides over Chen nomination for federal Circuit judge
Chen could be the first Taiwanese American in federal appellate court
Sen. Mazie Hirono presided Wednesday over the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing for the nomination of Raymond Chen as United States Circuit Judge for the Federal Circuit.
Chen currently serves as the Deputy General Counsel for Intellectual Property Law and Solicitor at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. If confirmed, Chen will be the first Asian Pacific American on the federal circuit in over 25 years as well as the first Taiwanese American on a federal appellate court.
"I had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Chen recently where he shared with me his path to the law after beginning a career as an engineer," Hirono said as she introduced Chen’s nomination. "He talked about his parents immigrating to the United States from Taiwan, and as he is their only child I can imagine how proud they must be today. I was thoroughly impressed with Mr. Chen, and I am sure that his qualifications along with his skill and specialized knowledge will make him an ideal nominee for the Federal Circuit."
