Congresswoman-elect Tulsi Gabbard carried a photo Wednesday of 1st Lt. Nainoa Hoe on behalf of the Hoe family at the groundbreaking for the ceremony of the Vietnam Memorial Education Center in Washington.
Hoe, a soldier from Hawaii, was fatally shot by a sniper in Mosul, Iraq in 2005. His father, Allen Hoe, a Vietnam veteran, asked that Gabbard carry the photo of his son as part of the groundbreaking ceremony.
Representatives of all 50 states presented photos of heroes from current conflicts to be carried and presented by family, friends and comrades at the groundbreaking.
Gabbard is a member of the Hawaii National Guard and served two tours of duty in the Middle East.
