Gabbard: U.S. must take North Korea threats seriously
U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard says the United States can't afford any mistakes by not taking threats of nuclear war from North Korea seriously.
Gabbard spoke on the House floor Thursday to say the threats are more than a far-off annoyance for people in Hawaii and Guam.
Gabbard says the United States can't afford to be complacent given intelligence that shows North Korea may be planning multiple missile launches in the coming days.
Analysts say an attack on South Korea or the United States by North Korea is highly unlikely, and that strong remarks from Pyongyang and leader Kim Jong Un are more likely a strategic move to try to win direct talks with Washington.
Gabbard says the threats show a need to increase funding for missile defense.
