Carol Fukunaga (third from right) was sworn in as a Honolulu city council member.
The newest member of the Honolulu City Council was sworn in Tuesday.
Carol Fukunaga will represent residents in District 6, which covers a portion of Makiki, Downtown Honolulu, Punchbowl, Liliha, Pauoa Valley, Nuuanu, Alewa Heights, Papakolea, Kalihi Valley, and a portion of Kalihi.
Fukunaga won a special election to replace Tulsi Gabbard who resigned to run for Congress.
Fukunaga says she's ready to tackle the hot issues like traffic, potholes, sewer costs and water rates.
She beat out a slew of candidates including former Hawaii Republican Party chair and state representative Sam Aiona as well as former city councilman Jon Yoshimura.
Fukunaga was a state senator until she lost to Brian Taniguchi in the Primary Election this year due to reapportionment.
