Initial reports and eye witnesses indicate that a Mercedes-Benz was speeding on the freeway around 6:45 p.m. when it crashed into two vehicles. One of the vehicles caught fire near the Ka Uka Blvd. off-ramp.
It is believed that the initial crash caused several other collisions between the Ka Uka and Waianae off-ramps.
The auto fire was reported under control by the fire department within 10 minutes, and declared extinguished about 25 minutes later. No word yet on injuries suffered by the drivers or their passengers.
Police rerouted southbound traffic from the freeway onto Ka Uka Blvd. while they investigated.
