Kauai police have identified the woman who died while attempting to cross Hanakoa Stream on Friday.
She was identified as 19-year-old Zoe Walker of Ha'ena. Police say she died as a result of drowning, as determined by an autopsy on Monday.
On Saturday, Walker's body was recovered from the rocky base of Hanakoa Stream.
Walker had been living on Kauai for the past several months.
Walker and a 24-year-old male friend were camping in the Kalalau Valley earlier in the week and were hiking Friday afternoon. They were both swept down the Hanakoa Stream while attempting to cross it. The man was able to make it to shore with minor injuries.
The man tried to locate the woman, but after an unsuccessful search he hiked out of the valley to seek help.
Rescue crews conducted an aerial search for roughly an hour before nightfall forced suspension of the search overnight.
Walker's body was located near the Hanakoa shoreline at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Volunteers from Life’s Bridges, a non-profit grief counseling service, is assisting the woman's loved ones.
