Windward Oahu wasn't the only part of the island swamped by water... KITV4's Brenton Awa is standing by with more on another hard-hit area. 1 32-36 40-43 53-56 136 Pam -- Pearl City got it's fair share of flooding... In one area -- the water was so strong -- a DOT type concrete barrier was pushed out of place and an asphalt bike path just floated away. This isn't a scene out of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory... It's the Waiawa stream in Pearl City. NATS - 2434 "CANNOT GET THROUGH YOU HAVE TO GO AROUND." That's just one of the common phrases put out by people using the Pearl Harbor bike path. Here's another. NATS - 838 "I DIDN'T EXPECT THIS TODAY." No one did... 1721 "DEREK KUDA, BICYCLIST: IT'S PRETTY WASHED OUT, IT LOOKS LIKE THE WATER MUST'VE WENT UNDER THE TRAIL. I'VE SEEN OTHER TRAILS LIKE THAT WHERE IT GOT MOVED AROUND BUT NOT THIS WAY." 1317 - Tina "FROM WHAT SOME OF THE RESIDENTS TOLD ME IT WAS WAIST HIGH." This area off of Lehua Avenue flooded out last night after debris clogged up this bridge. Bicyclists say they've been use to trekking through mud on the trail before... 938 "LESTER SASAKI, BICYCLIST: BUT NEVER THIS BAD ACTUALLY, NORMALLY WHEN IT GETS HERE ITS CLEANED UP." The water even managed to wash out a 15-foot section of pavement. 1925 "TINA QUIZON, NEARBY RESIDENT: I WAS JUST AMAZED THAT THAT CURRENT GOT THAT STRONG TO JUST MOVE THIS BIKE PATH AND JUST ONE WHOLE PIECE LIKE THIS AWAY. IT SHOWS THE POWER OF WHAT YOU GOT HERE." While residents say this is the worst flood they've seen in years... They tell us -- it's not the first. And the problem isn't going away by itself. 1249 - Tina "THE STATE THE NAVY THE ARMY CORPS THE CITY JUST ALL SORT OF TURN A BLING EYE TO THIS WHOLE AREA AND IT'S ACTUALLY THE RESIDENTS IN THE EARLY MORNING END UP HAVING TO CLEAR THE WATERWAY." Another one of the concerns brought up out there today was about all the car parts -- bottles of oil -- and other man made debris that was found clogging the waterway under the bridge this morning. There's a junk yard right there that borders the Waiawa stream... Residents hope that the city will not only work to repair and clear off the bike path -- but they want officials to put an end to all of the pollution they say is happening there. Back to you.
