At around 9:40 a.m., Chad Teisina, 21, was seen running across the recreation yard toward the fence. Corrections officers surrounded the fence on both sides before Teisina made it to the top.
Teisina was brought down off of the fence and handcuffed. Sheriffs are investigating the incident.
"Teisina tried to escape in broad daylight," said Public Safety Director Ted Sakai. "We don't know why they do impulsive things like this but this is the type of person our corrections officers deal with every day and I commend our staff for a job well done in keeping the safety and security of our facilities."
Teisina sustained puncture wounds to his body from the razor wire and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. He was transported back to OCCC by Thursdsay afternoon. He will face in-house disciplinary action as well as criminal action for the attempted escape.
Teisina is at OCCC pending trial on robbery and assault charges.
