Youth football is big in Hawaii, but it can sometimes be hard to keep our kids safe if they don't have the proper equipment.
The Kalihi Disciples Football team is holding a fundraiser to change that.
"Throughout the season our kids did an awesome job. We won championships, so it really means a lot to them and we wanted to do something special in the season to come," said Assistant Coach Elijah Uli.
Coach Uli says it's been a banner year for Kalihi. For the first time, all three divisions -- Varsity, Junior Varsity and Intermediate -- came in first place and won championships.
The team even got the attention of National Football League player Doug Baldwin. Baldwin plays for the Seattle Seahawks.
"Just want to congratulate the Disciples on winning the championship. Heard you guys did really well. With hard work and determination anything's possible and I think you guys proved that. So, continue to work hard, Keep grinding and stay fresh," said Baldwin.
The Kalihi Disciples want to keep there wins on a roll and will hold a fundraiser Saturday at Hawaiian Brian's from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
There will be lots of pupus, raffle tickets, door prizes and live entertainment.
