H&M is set to open its first Hawaii location in Waikiki on March 27 at noon.
The flagship store, located in the Waikiki Business Plaza, will feature 31,000 square feet.
"We are truly excited to open our first location in the islands at this iconic shopping location in Waikiki," said Daniel Kulle, U.S. President for H&M. "People from across the globe travel to Hawaii to experience its very special culture and an environment that is unlike any other in the U.S. or in the world. Our new flagship location will be a great addition to the luxury retail mix on Kalakaua Avenue, giving residents and tourists alike great choices in fashion with great value."
One-hundred & sixty local employees have been hired for the new location, including 20 people that will return from the mainland home to Hawaii.
H&M Honolulu will offer collections for ladies, men, young ladies and young men, with separate "store within store" sections for accessories, lingerie and sports apparel.
To celebrate the new location, H&M will host a memorable in-store VIP event on Wednesday, March 26.
Special invited guests will be the first to preview and shop at the store, party in the trendy surfer hangout and enjoy a special performance by popular indie band Best Coast. In addition, the new H&M store will feature the work of renowned local surf photographers Mike Coots, Sarah Lee and Zak Noyle in a one-of-a-kind installation to commemorate Hawaii’s local culture and influencers.
On opening day, March 27, H&M will offer the first 500 shoppers in line a limited-edition tote bag featuring the surf photographers' most popular images as well as an Access to Fashion Pass valued from $10 to $500, in addition to other fantastic opening offers for the whole family!
H&M, Hennes & Mauritz AB is also one of the largest users of organic cotton in the world. The new Honolulu store will offer the best of sustainable fashion through its spring 2014 collection featuring cropped tops, printed dresses and super stretch trousers for women, and "easy essentials" tees, micro-patterned shirts and casual weekend wear shorts for men.
Joining H&M in celebrating its Honolulu opening is AccesSurf, a charitable partner that empowers people with disabilities. AccesSurf provides adaptive surfing instruction and therapeutic educational programs on water recreation and enriches lives by assisting families to access the beach and ocean in a barrier-free environment. H&M will be donating a grant in support of the program.
Store hours will be Sunday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
