Maui County police say a 86-year-old Molokai man died after a crash on Mauna Loa Highway back in May.
The crash happened on May 8 at around 6:40 a.m. Investigators say a pickup truck was traveling east when it veered left of center and struck a guard rail on the north side of the roadway.
After striking the guard rail, the truck continued southeast to the south shoulder of the roadway, went up an embankment and flipped on its roof.
The 86-year-old man was a passenger in the truck. He was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The man died on June 4. He was identified as Harry Shimizu. The driver of the truck, an 86-year-old Molokai woman, did not suffer major injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
This is Maui County's 14th traffic fatality compared with eight at the same time last year.
