Thanks for watching KITV News Online, I'm Kenny Choi. Locally the government shutdown is affecting local agencies. It's lights out for national parks and monuments -- the Arizona Memorial and Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island. Another place impacted by the government shutdown -- the National Cemetery of the Pacific and its 27 employees. The Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard will also be impacted. Roughly two-thirds of the 4,400 civilian employees who work there will furloughed. The health care act begins TODAY -- individuals can now go online to find health insurance. The process involves people being able to go online to find out whether they'll be eligible for premium subsidies that will help lower the cost of coverage. Plus -- you can find information on available plans that are up for purchase. Here in Hawaii -- the Hawaii Health Connector is expected to help thousands of residents get insured. On the Big Island ... The Hawaii County Council will meet again today to hash out the controversial G-M-O issue. According to West Hawaii Today... The council's last meeting lasted nearly 8 hours. Members are hearing from both sides of Bill 113 which would restrict transgenic crops. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Hawaii has become the first sub-national government to sign onto the Majuro Declaration for Climate Leadership. A team of UH researchers shared the results of a TWO-THOUSAND page report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The latest report says since 1950, humans are clearly responsible for more than half of the observed increase in temperatures.
