Thanks for watching KITV4 News Online, I'm Jill Kuramoto. On Maui -- A woman in her twenties is fighting for her life this morning-- after the car she was in fell 60 feet into a ravine. It happened around 6-30 last night near the Pua'a Ka'a State Park along Hana Highway. Two other women in the car also suffered minor injuries. No word YET what caused the car to go off the roadway. On the Big Island ... The slow-burning Waimanu Valley fire is finally under control ... But the trail remains CLOSED. 17 firefighters have been working since Saturday to contain the flames, which burned two-acres. No camping permits are being issued at this time. Hawaii was one of six states chosen to receive guidance and technical help with early childhood education. The help will come from both the National Governors Association.... and private sector consultants. The other state's chosen were Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Nevada and Pennsylvania. Maui Electric Company is holding a public meeting on Molokai today -- to seek comment on a draft 5-year action plan. The purpose is to get input on a 5-year action plan on how the company will meet future energy needs. The meeting is from 6-to-8p-m at the Mitchell Pauole Center in Kaunakakai. The Department of Transportation is re-evaluating the BEST time to do survey work-- after causing these major backups on the H-1 Freeway yesterday. This happened around noon near the Kaonohi Street overpass. Surveyors are checking their patch-up work on the road deck as they prepare for nightly contra-flow.
