Casey Nakama is bubbling with pride after watching his pupil become a champion.
Nakama taught Wie at the Casey Nakama Golf Development Center from age 9 to 13 and has fond memories of golf's new national champ.
“I remember that moment that I knew this was going to be something special, she was probably only 11 years old and she was hitting some shots we only teach to the most advanced boys,” said Nakama.
Nakama also recalls the dedication Michelle and her parents had to the game of golf.
“The parents committed themselves into bringing her to the golf course, she practiced Monday-Saturday. They were only not here on Sunday,” said Nakama.
Wie has been rewarded for all her hard work, winning $720,000 for her U.S. Open victory. This marks the largest purse ever in women’s golf.
