A 54-year-old man who drowned Wednesday in waters off Kua Bay in Kona has been identified, according to Big Island police.
He has been identified as Robert Gregory Osborne of Holualoa.
At 1:25 p.m., Kona Patrol officers responded to a report that an unresponsive man had been pulled from the water at Kua Bay.
Officers obtained information that the he had been observed floating and was pulled to shore by bystanders, who attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Fire Department personnel arrived and took him to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy revealed that he died of salt water drowning.
