A 54-year-old man was pronounced dead in Portlock Tuesday morning after an apparent drowning, according to Emergency Medical Services officials.
Paramedics were called to the scene just before 9 a.m.
The paddleboarder was identified as Shogo Kubo, a skateboarding pioneer, according to the medical examiner.
ESPN is reporting that Kubo was one of the original members of the Zephyr surf shop's Z-Boys skateboarding team.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
