Honolulu Police say the man was in a marked crosswalk on Kamehameha Highway, but was crossing against the light when he was hit.
The accident happened just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Officers say he was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but later died.
“As he was crossing on the makai side heading mauka, the vehicles heading town bound were honking at him to let him know he was crossing against the red and that they had the green light,” said Lt. Carlene Lau, HPD Traffic Division.
A 67-year-old Aiea woman was driving the car that hit the man.
Investigators say it is unknown whether speed was a factor in the crash.
The road was reopened about two hours later.
