A 44-year-old man accused of dousing a friend with gasoline before setting him on fire has been charged with attempted murder in the second degree and other drug charges, according to police.
Police records say Joel Lonzaga was drinking Wednesday night in Kaneohe with the 47-year-old victim when an argument arose.
Family members tried to stop Lonzaga. They say the flames lasted for more than 30 seconds and went higher than the carport.
The victim was rushed to Straub Clinic & Hospital where he is reportedly in critical condition.
Second-degree attempted murder carries a life sentence. Lonzaga is in police custody on $200,000 bail.
