The Kauai man accused of pushing a woman from Japan off a cliff was sentenced on Wednesday to the maximum of five years in prison, according to the Kauai Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
Justin Klein of Kilauea pleaded guilty to the reckless endangerment charge.
The incident happened in December 2012. Klein remained a fugitive for about two months after the incident. The court ruled he was mentally fit to stand trial.
The woman was critically injured, but has since recovered.
The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney released the following statement: "We're satisfied that we were able to resolve this case without putting the victim through the trauma of trial."
