21.44 CHANT A blessing today at Kina'u Hale for the newly renovated public entrance and lobby for the state health department. The project was the vision of Health Director Loretta Fuddy who died last year after the plane she was on made a hard landing off Molokai. She was involved in the design of the project and worked with the architects for several months prior to her death. A crystal plaque shows the appreciation FOR the former Director. The renovation also includes computer stations for couples to complete their license applications online. 24.17 "SOMEBODY SAID TODAY THEY WISH SHE WAS HERE TO SEE IT. SHE SAW IT WHEN SHE DESIGNED IT. SHE SAW IT LONG BEFORE WE SAW IT. THAT'S WHY SHE WAS A LEADER. I THINK THIS IS A SYMBOL OF THE WORK SHE DID AND OF HER HEART AND WHO SHE WAS." Also unveiled, two original artworks by local artist Kamea Namba Hadar that symbolize the events of birth and marriage recorded at the Department of Health. Last year, The Hawaii Department of Health registered nearly 23 thousand marriages and 19 thousand births.
