Kauai water department officials have cancelled the Boil Water Advisory for the entire Lihue and Hanamaulu area.
The advisory was initially issued Thursday after officials learned soil entered a water line after water crews worked on a waterline to Hoomana Road Wednesday night.
Officals say when DOW personnel turned the line back on, it disturbed the existing system and created a brown water and air mixture. That water was released into the neighborhoods of Molokoa, Isenberg and Hanamaulu.
Water samples were taken Thursday and tested. Officials say the water is now safe and free of microbial contamination.
Water officials flushed out affected waterlines to clear out the bad water.
Those affected were advised to only use bottled water for drinking and cooking until further notice.
Residents should flush outdoor water hoses until the water appears clear.
