A Kauai vehicle crash killed a 55-year-old county worker and injured two other workers just east of 'Ele'ele Thursday.
The man who died was identified as Severino Butay.
The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. on Kaumuali'i Highway going westbound, between mile marker 14 and 15.
Officials say the Kalaheo man was a county employee. He was standing next to a county pickup truck's trailer when a semi-truck collided into it.
The three county employees are believed to have been repairing a tire when traffic forced the semi-truck to attempt an abrupt stop. The semi-truck then veered off the roadway and hit the parked trailer.
The two injured workers were taken to Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi-truck did not report any injuries.
Traffic safety investigators closed Kaumuali'i Highway in both directions for roughly four hours while conducting an on-scene investigation. Lanes were reopened at around 2:30 p.m.
Police say the crash remains under police investigation.
