Premium Shirt Printing Hawaii, the only screen-printing company in Windward Oahu, are raising money on Kickstarter to build a mobile screen printing studio.
Adam Worrel and Peter Keizer, co-owners of the year-old custom-shirt company, are turning to crowdsourcing to kickstart their newest artistic venture titled "FlashFlood."
Worrel and Keizer are seeking a creative way to involve the public in their quest to provide instant original screen-printed designs on T-shirts to attendees at concerts, fairs, exhibits, festivals and trade shows.
Worrel, who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, asks, "When were you ever able to pick your design, the style and color T-shirt; then watch, learn, and even participate, as the screen printer puts the design exactly where you want it positioned on the shirt? Just imagine, you're attending a big event and in a matter of minutes, you are putting on your new custom T-shirt that you created! Mobile screen-printing, where each shirt is one-of-a-kind, is a new art-form that no one else is doing in Hawaii."
By turning to crowd-sourcing to reach $15,000 through Kickstarter.com, "FlashFlood" will be able to kickstart its first mobile screen-printing event. With this funding, "FlashFlood" will set up a portable trailer and tent at BayFest Hawaii at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe, Oct. 17 through 19.
The trailer will be equipped with table-top presses and screen-printing supplies plus 3,000 shirts of all sizes and colors and styles. They say the shirts are locally sourced.
"If there is enough donor-participation in this unique project, we will be able to show up at any event on Oahu, big or small, ready to educate people on the screen-printing process and inspire creativity -- creating fun, crazy designs and making people smile! It will also help us continue to give back to the community," says Keizer.
The business manager of the company also says that contributors to the "FlashFlood" project will be rewarded for every dollar contributed. From $1 to a $1,000, there is something for everyone.
For example, $24 gets the donor one custom screen-printed shirt. A business that contributes $100 will receive 100 co-branded shirts. Designers can get their own kickstart by contributing $300. They'll collaborate with "FlashFlood" to turn their dream design into reality, receiving 20 shirts with their own design. For $500, your approved design will be featured at a live print event! For a $1,000 donation, "FlashFlood" will co-brand 2,000 shirts for a live print event.
