The Kaiser Permanente Honolulu Clinic was evacuated due to a chemical odor Friday morning.
The clinic was aware of the situation at around 8:30 a.m.
Fire crews were called to the scene just after 10 a.m. The clinic says it will be closed for the rest of the day.
Many of the staff were waiting near the Medical Arts Building just after the evacuation. There are about 420 staff members at the clinic.
A spokeswoman from Kaiser said the odor was from the nearby First Chinese Church of Honolulu that has been under construction. The odor came from paint sealant.
Some of the Kaiser employees say they had symptoms like headaches, nausea, watery eyes and burning throats.
If you call the clinic, there is a message saying that the clinic is closed due to an emergency.
There is one pharmacy technician on the ground floor for emergency prescriptions.
An environmental contractor is scheduled to arrive at the clinic at around 5:30 p.m.
Appointments are being rescheduled.
