After a week and a half of lane closures, drivers heading into Kailua town should see some relief by Monday.
The City says a new section of pipe has been installed within the trench dug up near Hamakua Drive.
A PVC pipe has been installed to replace the 18 feet of damaged sewer line. The old pipe was removed Tuesday night. Once contractors pulled it out, they were able to see just how badly the existing pipe had corroded.
Mark Yonamine, City Design and Construction Deputy, compared the old and new sewer line.
He says the pipe, which is supposed to be two inches thick, got down to half an inch or a quarter of an inch in some places.
The cause for the corrosion was gases in the sewer line.
