Good evening, I'm Yunji de Nies. Kenny Choi has the night off. In nine hours from now, the poll - there's just one in tomorrow's election- will open. Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa is not happy with the judge's ruling, rejecting her lawsuit to postpone tomorrow's vote in Puna. 413 FEEDBACK FROM THE PEOPLE IS THAT THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY GOVERNMENT IS DOING THIS TO THEM. WHY THEY CAN'T HAVE THE TIME TO RECOVER. 22 Her attorney went head to head with a lawyer for the state office of elections in a Hilo Courtroom this morning, arguing over WHEN the more than 6000 Puna residents should be allowed to vote. 158 THIS CASE IS REALLY ABOUT FAIRNESS. FAIRNESS IN THE SENSE OF THOUSANDS OF PUNA RESIDENTS ARE JUST NOW STILL STRUGGLING TO RECOVER FROM THE DEVASTATION: 22 1:56 THIS CASE IS ABOUT A CANDIDATE HAVING A DIFFERENT OPINION WITH THE CHIEF ELECTIONS OFFICER AS TO WHEN THE ELECTION SHOULD BE HELD. 2:02 Judge Greg Nakamura said that while there is quote a "lack of common sense to hold the election tomorrow" - it must proceed. He says it's not up to a court to interfere - a point the state championed after the ruling. WE BELIEVE SHE DID NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THE VOTERS IN THE PUNA DISTRICT. UM NO ONE APPOINTED HER TO BE THEIR SPOKESPERSON. 428 WHY IS IT THAT WE ARE INSENSITIVE TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE GOING THROUGH A VERY CRITICAL TIME IN THEIR LIVES? 434 Hanabusa says with the election going forward, the state should be doing more to alert voters. 5:58 THERE'S NOT ENOUGH SIGNAGE, THERE'S NOT ENOUGH INFORMATION TO TELL PEOPLE IT'S GOING ON, WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DO OUR BEST TO GET THE INFORMATION OUT TO PEOPLE. 608 Senator Brian Schatz is also in Puna, delivering supplies to those in need. He didn't want to comment on the ruling, but his campaign manager released a statement, saying, "Senator Schatz continues to focus his energies on helping the people of Puna to recover, and that's what he will do on an ongoing basis. His commitment to recovery in Puna extends beyond the election."
