Sad news has come out of Puunui for beloved neighborhood hangout John's Grocery, also known as John's Store.

For more than 80 years, the store has been the place for shave ice, spam musubi, and memories for many, but landowners have recently put the property up for sale.
The listing even touts it the building as the home of the well-known mom-and-pop shop.
In December, KITV featured the business in our "Where You Live" series. Even then, long-time manager Archie Lardizabal hinted he knew the business wouldn't last forever.
"All depends on how it goes," said store manager Archie Lardizabal.
"Gone is the era of all the good mom and pops. This is one of the few remaining. I hope they stay here for another 100 years," said Dennis, a customer.
But that won't be the case for the store.
John's Grocery has had quite a run, opening in 1926. In its early years it was called Puunui Market.
Lardizabal says the daughter of the 90-year-old land-owner needed the money to take care of her mom.
He says they tried to buy the place, but with the bank as the trustee it will likely go to a higher bidder.
John says he's sad, but looking forward to doing some fishing.
