University of Hawaii President David Lassner has named an interim Manoa chancellor since the removal of Tom Apple.
Lassner has named Robert Bley-Vroman, the current Dean of Languages, Linguistics and Literature, to assume the post September 1.
"Dr. Bley-Vroman is committed to maintaining the high standard for campus communications that our students and faculty have made it clear they expect and that we all believe they deserve. We have also discussed key immediate and short-term activities that are necessary," said Lassner.
Lassner said he will work with Bley-Vroman to strengthen the position of the cancer center as a National Cancer Institute.
Apple was formally given notice that he was being removed as chancellor after an unsatisfactory review just two weeks ago.
The former chancellor believes his removal is tied to his attempts to terminate the head of the cancer center Michele Carbone for mismanagement, which was overruled.
