One of the officers recognized was officer Kerwin Unten, who on his off-duty hours responded to a call for help from the third floor of a parking structure in Aiea.
When he arrived, he found a car engulfed in flames. Unten pulled a couple from the burning car while four bystanders put out the flames.
Among others honored at the banquet, two police dispatchers, Naomi Uyeshiro and Marsella Eberhardt and one police operator, Susan Jay. The trio helped a 4-year-old direct police to her home after her mother had a life-threatening medical emergency.
