A family mourns the death of a loved one. While the Honolulu Police Department mourns the loss of an officer---after an apparent accidental shooting. Family members say 39-year old Jens Magelssen ) was showing his handgun to a friend during a barbecue Saturday at his Sierra Drive home when it accidentally went off. He was rushed to Queen's Medical Center where he was pronounced brain dead yesterday. Family members say Magelssen moved here from Washington state and joined HPD to be closer to his 8 year old son. PHONER: MARK MAGELSSEN UNCLE 21:11-21:24 "HE WAS A WONDERFUL FATHER. I'VE KNOWN HIM SINCE HE WAS A SMALL CHILD. HE HAD A KIND, GENTLE HEART. THAT WHAT EVERYONE SAYS ABOUT HIM. HE WAS A VERY VERY DEDICATED FATHER." Family members say they are hoping this family tragedy will bring love and life to others-- through the donation of Jens Magelssen's organs. A memorial service for Magellson will be held this thursday from 1-4 pm at the Hawaii Kai church of latter day saints chapel. The public is welcome to attend.
