The Honoka'a People's Theatre, which opened in 1930, needs money to buy a digital projector that could show first-run movies.
The theater currently has a film projector, but the owner says it will stop receiving film at the end of the year.
Theatre owners say they need $60,000 dollars to buy the projector and that the theatre is half way there.
"As far as showing first-run movies, we probably would cease doing that if we don't reach the goal," said Tawn Keeney of the Honokaa People's Theater
Keeney says if he doesn't raise the money by October the theater will close its doors.
