The event honored Hawaii's Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole at the Hilton Waikiki Beach hotel, formerly the Prince Kuhio Hotel.
Kuhio was born in 1871. He took part in the 1895 counter revolution to reinstate Queen Liliuokalani, but was imprisoned for his role.
Students from Kuhio Elementary school shared some tidbits of his life at the celebration.
"In 1902 he ran for congress. The Hawaiian people showed their love and trust in him by electing him for 10 terms. That means he served 20 years in congress," said the students.
Known as the Keali'i maka'ainana or the citizen prince, Kuhio is best known for shepherding the Hawaiian Homes Act through congress. It became law in 1921.
Kuhio died in 1922.
