Woman identified in Ahuimanu truck accident
Police: Mikaele, 46, stopped truck halfway up driveway to unlock gate
The woman who died in a truck accident in Ahuimanu on Wednesday has been identified as 46-year-old Katinia Mikaele of Kaneohe, according to the medical examiner's office.
Police say Mikaele was driving a Toyota Tundra truck when she stopped the vehicle halfway up the driveway to open a gate.
"The driver was alone at the time, unlocking a gate. For whatever reason, [the truck] started to roll and apparently got run over by her own vehicle," said Lt. Bobby Towne of the Honolulu Police Department's Traffic Division.
The truck then slammed into a nearby home. Neighbors heard the crash and called 911.
Mikaele was taken to the hospital in critical condition where she later died.
