When you hear the name Pauoa it may sound familiar, but many people cannot pinpoint where it is located.
Pauoa is a neighborhood just outside of downtown Honolulu tucked between Pacific Heights and Papakolea.
It is home to former Sen. Daniel Akaka, local musician Kaipo Hale and the famous surfing family the Aikau's.
It's not as well known as its famous neighboring valleys Manoa and Nu’uanu, but Pauoa has its own uniqueness and character.
“People who are from the valley or went to school in the valley, when you mention Pauoa to them their eyes light up and it’s something about it. They know it’s a hidden secret and gem and it is something special,” said Sean Tajima, a Pauoa resident. “It’s nothing they want to be in limelight, but it’s something they have pride in.”
There’s more to area than even some residents born and raised have never seen before.
