Water main breaks on Oahu have decreased by six percent on Oahu.
According to the Board of Water Supply (BWS), there were 315 water main breaks in 2013 in comparison to 336 in 2012.
The semi-autonomous agency says fee increases have helped fund a backlog of much needed improvements.
"The Board of Water Supply is spending more money to address the aging infrastructure. We've gone from $50 million to $80 million to address the problems there," said BWS Spokeswoman Jill Kuramoto.
BWS says an internal leak detection program has also helped decrease the number of breaks by catching problems with water mains before they burst.
