The Costco store in Waipio was evacuated Friday afternoon after there was a rupture in a refrigeration line and gas was released, according to fire officials.
The gas that was released is R-22, or chlorodifluoromethane. It is a refrigerant.
About 400 pounds of gas was released, according to the refrigeration technician.
The gas was released into the Costco building at around 2:15 p.m. There were about 400 customers and 50 workers in Costco when the gas was released.
Some of the surrounding businesses were also evacuated.
Three or four workers complained of dizziness, but no one needed medical attention.
The building was ventilated with fans. After it was air tested, the building was back to normal. The all clear as given at 4 p.m.
