HONOLULU -

A Good Samaritan was recognized Sunday for his efforts at a rescue at Spitting Caves in East Honolulu a day earlier.

Ocean Safety officials said Guillermo Arrubla of Arizona jumped into the water when he saw a woman struggling.

Although unfamiliar with the area and injured himself, from scaling down the rocks, Arrubla used lifejackets to keep the woman afloat until lifeguards arrived.  The woman did not suffer any major injuries.
